Grants for a clubhouse, pavilion or pitch

This is the ambitious end of club funding and the one where the most volunteer hours get wasted. The order you do things in matters more than which fund you pick.
Sort tenure before you sort funding
Funders will not put capital money into a building on land the club has no secure right to use. If your lease is short, rolling, informal or in someone's personal name, fix that first. It usually takes longer than the grant application and it is the single most common reason club building projects collapse halfway through. Talk to the landowner, whether that is the council, a parish, a school or a private owner, before you talk to a funder.
The realistic funding ladder
- Football facilities in England
- The Football Foundation is the dedicated funder, and its live programmes include changing pavilions and clubhouses, 3G and grass pitches, drainage, fencing, floodlights, storage and catering units. Each programme opens and closes separately, so check the specific grant page rather than assuming.
- Smaller works, any sport
- National Lottery Awards for All, £300 to £20,000, projects up to 2 years, open in all four nations on 15 August 2026.
- Substantial projects in England
- Reaching Communities England, £20,001 to £20,000,000, projects up to 5 years. Plan around the decision time, which the funder gives as 40 weeks.
- Spaces rather than buildings
- Sport England's Movement Fund covers helping improve or create new spaces for people to be active in, up to £15,000. Better suited to resurfacing, access or lighting than to a build.

Phase it
A club that has delivered a £12,000 project on time and reported on it properly is a far better bet to a large funder than one asking for £200,000 with no track record. Phasing is not a compromise, it is the fastest route to the big money. Deliver the changing room refurbishment, report on it, then apply for the extension.
Do not start work, order materials or sign a contractor before a decision. Retrospective funding for work already started or completed is excluded by the Football Foundation and by most other funders.
